Death of Mrs. Luther Fox

The community was shocked last Thursday by the news of the death of Mrs. Luther Fox, at Cottage Hospital, Des Moines, for although it was known that Mrs. Fox had long been ill and was at one time in a critical condition, it was understood that the crisis was past and she was improving. Heartfelt sympathy of the community for Mr. Fox and the two little girls, now left motherless.

The remains were brought here from Des Moines the next day, and the funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church on Friday afternoon. The ceremony lost much of its usual doleful aspect by the profusion of flowers and potted plants which decorated the church. The casket was hidden under white blossoms, and Easter lilies added their beauty and fragrance. The scripture reading and prayer, the sermon and the account of Mrs. Fox’s life were given by Rev. Dr. Ely. The choir sang the hymns, “Rock of Ages,” “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Jesus Lover of My Soul.” The brief but impressive ceremonies at the cemetery were conducted by Dr. Ely.

Mrs. Flora Fox was born in Medina county, Ohio, in 1861, and came to Iowa when six years of age. She graduated from the high school at Afton, and was a teacher in that institution for twelve years. She was married to Luther Fox in 1891, since which time she has lived in this county.

Note: Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
