J. W. Pinckney Dead.

The REPORTER learned Monday evening of the sad death of Mr. J. W. Pinckney which occurred that day at his home near Macksburg. Mr. Pinckney was one of the oldest settler’s in that part of Madison county and a man widely known, having been prominent in Republican politics for many years. He was one of God’s noblemen, and the news of his death will create sadness all over the county. He was nearly 70 years old, we should judge, and the father of a large family of boys, most of whom have been married and gone so themselves. Mr. Pinckney was a successful farmer and his influence was always for good. The REPORTER has lost one of its best friends by his death, and it is with sorrow and regret that we chronicle the sad event.

Obituary.

Joseph W. Pinckney was born in Schoharie county, New York, May 24th, 1833. Early in 1850 he with his parents removed to Henry county, Ill., thence in March, 1869, he removed to Madison county, Iowa, where he made his home until his death, April 25th, 1898.

He was married February 22d, 1852, to Miss Mary J. Arasmith. He leaves a wife, eight sons and one daughter, all of whom except one son were with him in his last hour.

Mr. Pinckney was well known in social, business and political circles, and had the full confidence and esteem of all who knew him. In politics he was a staunch and faithful adherent of Republicanism, having voted for every presidential candidate of the party. In social life he was genial and pleasant to a marked degree. In business he was the soul of honor and dignity. For nearly five years he had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and was very active in religious work. His death leaves a vacancy that will be hard to fill.

The funeral services were held at Macksburg, April 27th. At the grave were performed the beautiful and impressive funeral services of Freemasonry, of which order Mr. Pinckney had been an enthusiastic and efficient member for thirty-five years.
