She leaves a husband and three children to mourn her loss. She was converted ten years ago, and lived a true Christian life. The funeral services were conducted Friday by Rev. Bartley, of Lorimor. The remains were laid to rest in the Barney cemetery. The bereaved have the sympathy of the entire community.

Dear Sister, thou art gone,

No more thy face we see;

Thy voice no more we hear;

In vain we look for thee.

With heart were grieved and rest.

With Hope and strength most gone

We could but heed the message sent,

And say, “Thy will be done.”

Barney and Elsewhere

Three deaths occurred in Monroe township on February 23 within two miles of each other. Something that we seldom ever hear of in the country. Miss Jessie Likens died early in the morning; Mrs. Ella Pope at noon and George Bancroft in the evening.

Mrs. Pope had been sick about a year with consumption. She was born at Des Moines March 20, 1863, and died February 23, 1898. Her sister, Mrs. Griffin, of Des Moines, was the only relative present at the time of her death, besides her family. She leaves a husband and three children to mourn her loss. The oldest child is 13 years of age and the youngest four.

She had been a member of the Methodist church for the past ten years, and was willing and ready to go at the Savior’s call. The pastor of the M. E. church of Lorimor conducted the funeral services, and the remains were laid to rest in the Barney cemetery. The family have the sympathy of all in their hour of sadness.
