Died, Feb. 23rd, 1898, Mr. George Bancroft, at the age of 66 years. Was born at Lincolnshire, England, in 1832, came to America in 1888. He had been a local minister for twenty-five years, always ready to lend a helping hand. He always met us with a kind word; words of cheer and encouragement.
“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.”
A wife and five children survive him. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rutman, Friday, at the Bethany Evangelical church, of which he was a member. He has now entered the Eternal City of the glorified saints, the blissful abode of the Savior’s redeemed. The prize he has so sought is at hand, and he goes sweeping through the pearly gates to the very throne of God, and Christ stands there and says: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter then into the joy of thy Lord.”

Died, February 23, 1898, George Bancroft, at the age of 66 years. He was born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1832, and came to America in 1888.
Mr. Bancroft was converted when very young, and was a local minister for about 25 years—always ready to lend a helping hand. His words of encouragement and kindness will live forever. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.”
A wife and five children survive him—one son in England, one, a minister, in Kansas, and a son and two daughters living here.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Butman Friday at Bethany. He has now entered the eternal city of the glorified saints, the blissful abode of the Savior’s redeemed. The prize he so long has sought is at hand; and he goes sweeping through the “pearly gates to the very throne of God, and Christ stands there and says, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

Died, February 24, 1898, George Bancroft, at his home in Monroe township; aged 65 years. Deceased was a native of Lincolnshire, England; ----- and a local preacher of the Wesleyan Methodist church.
He removed to this country with his wife and their grown children in 1888 and settled in Madison county, Iowa, on a farm the gift from his brother, John Bancroft and joined the class at Bethany Evangelical church and soon won the confidence and brotherly love of all.
Truly he was a “father in Israel,” gifted with the poetic genius far above his surroundings, and the love of God shed abroad in his heart to the fullest extent, rich in religious experience and full of faith in God and the Bible. He carried his religious convictions into all his dealings with his fellow man—thoroughly loyal to our ------ and institution, giving to his political duties careful, prayerful attention, always giving his voice and thoughts in the interests of humanity. Surely he was a benediction to our county and community.
