One of the saddest events which has taken place in this part of Iowa for many years took place last week in the family of Wm. Shea, of Lee township, on Monday morning the 17th inst. His daughter, Alice, a fine young girl 17 years old, died after a lingering illness. Her funeral was set for Wednesday morning. After her death, a sister who had been taking care of her was so overcome with grief that she ruptured an artery and died on Tuesday afternoon. The funeral of Alice was postponed and on Thursday the double funeral took place and was the largest ever seen in this place. The procession was over a mile long.
Mr. Shea’s daughter who died last was the wife of John Monaghan, of this township. She leaves behind her three children, the oldest only four or five years old. The remains of the two sisters were interred in one grave. May they rest in peace.
