DR. CLARENCE VIERLING, OKLAHOMA

Dr. Clarence Campbell Vierling, 98, of Midwest City, Okla., died July 26, 2008.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 30, at Barnes & Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City. Burial was at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Dr. Clarence Vierling was born Nov. 19, 1909, in Winterset to Earnest T. and Maude Henretta (Campbell) Vierling. He attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1935 with a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine. In 1938, he moved to Oklahoma City and established a veterinarian practice for large animals. Dr. Vierling was a member of the United States Army Reserves and when World War II began, was called to active duty in August 1942. He served 30 months overseas in the China, Burma and India theaters. His outfit saw considerable action in the Burma Road campaign. He was discharged from active duty in 1946 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Among other citations he received was the China Combat Command medal.

Dr. Vierling returned to Midwest City in 1946 and established Elms Animal Hospital, which he operated until Dec. 30, 1975. Following his retirement from veterinary practice, he completed a course in real estate, obtaining a license as a realty sales associate. He then organized Explorer Oil & Gas, Inc., which handles production operations for oil and gas in Okmulgee County, Okla. Other business interests included the operation of the family century farm in Iowa and supervision of extensive real estate properties he owned in Midwest City and Dell City, Okla.

Dr. Vierling’s memberships included the Moose Lodge, V.F.W., Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, Retired Officers’ Association, Good Sam RV Club, and the First Baptist Church of Midwest. He also was a charter member of the Mid-Del YMCA. Dr. Vierling’s marriage to Pauline Faye (Cossey) Brundage took place March 10, 1972.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry Brundage and Eddy Brundage.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline, of Midwest City, Okla.; three children, Clarence Randolph Vierling, Terry Davis and Travis Marrs; a brother, Jack Vierling of Winterset; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
