Chas. Prohaska Services Friday

Charles Prohaska, 80,, died at his home in Earlham Tuesday night. Funeral services will be held at the Earlham Friends church Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Mr. Prohaska was section foreman for the Rock Island railroad for many years. He also served on the Earlham town council for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, a son George of Earlham, and a daughter, Mrs. Helen Lee of Adel, and grandchildren.

Obituary

Charles Prohaska, son of Paul and Antonie Prohaska, was born near Earlham, Iowa, October 24, 1881 and passed away at the Winterset hospital on the evening of April 3, 1962.

On January 24, 1906 he was united in marriage to Mary G. Howard. To this union were born a son George E. and a daughter Helen M. Charlie lived in this community his entire life except for the seven years following his marriage spent in Nebraska.

While still a young man he entered railroading. For the first two years he served as foreman on the Burlington lines near Fremont, Nebraska. Later he moved to Dakota City where he served in the same capacity on the North Western for five years. The family returned to Earlham in 1912. In 1913 he re-entered the railroad service this time becoming foreman on the Rock Island. He remained in this position for over 40 years until he retired in 1953. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Maintenance Employees of the railroad.

For a period of 30 years he served his local community as a councilman. He was always conscientious both in his work and in his community services. In a quiet way he contributed to the less fortunate around him and was always a helpful and cooperative neighbor. He was a member of the Earlham Friends Church.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow Mary G. Prohaska and his children Mr. and Mrs. George Prohaska of Earlham and Mr. and Mrs. Otis R. Francis of Casper, Wyoming, and his grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Creighton of Rochester, Minnesota and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lee of Mills, Wyoming and five great grandchildren Joyce Carol and Janet Creighton and Johnny and Georgia Lee as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Earlham Friends church on Friday, April 6. Helen Ludwick was the organist and Gertrude Conrad and Wanda Knight sang.

Casket bearers were Sheldon Strong, Fred Hodson, Merritt Harris, H. Claude Peer, Mervyn McLennan and Earl Schalkle.

Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Otis R. Francis, Casper, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Creighton, Rochester, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Lee, Mills, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Prohaska, Aplington; George W. Prohaska, Perry; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Forret and Mrs. Yovonne McCleary, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Speer and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Speer, Waukee; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Myers and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Borhn, Adel; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Estrada, Stuart; Mrs. Frances Keim, Perry.
