Wednesday, November 24, 1897Death of Albert Weeks
Albert, the oldest son of Mr. A. W. C. Weeks, editor of the Winterset Review, died at his father’s home in this city, last Monday forenoon. Although it was known that Albert was far gone in consumption, the announcement of his death was a general surprise, as it was not supposed that his disease would have such a sudden termination. Several months ago he went to Colorado, in the hope of checking the disease. As is not uncommon with consumptives, he thought that he was improving, and so wrote his parents, but they learned from other sources that he was fast sinking, and his father went out to Denver and returned with him the early part of last week. The end came even sooner than was expected.
Albert was born in Winterset eighteen years ago, and lived here all his life. His death on the threshold of manhood is a sad blow to his parents, and their grief is shared by his school mates, friends and acquaintances.
The funeral was held at the home on last Tuesday afternoon, and was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ely, of the Presbyterian church. The class of ’98 of the Winterset high school attended in a body and furnished the music for the funeral exercises.

Last Monday at 11:30 a.m. Albert Weeks, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. C. Weeks, of this city, died of consumption.
Albert was 19 years, 5 months and 22 days old at time of death—a bright, promising young man. He was born at Winterset on July 1st, 1878, and always was a dutiful son, and loved and respected by all who knew him.
Last spring his parents became convinced that he had some kind of lung trouble, and his father at once took him into the invigorating atmosphere of Colorado in hope of restoring his health. While there everything possible was done for him, but he continued to fail, and just one week previous to his death Mr. Weeks arrived at home with him, having gone to Colorado to bring him home. He was unable to sit up when he arrived and continued to grow worse to the end.
The blow falls heavily upon one of the best homes in Winterset, and hosts of friends and neighbors reach out in sympathy to the bereaved.
