Death at St. Charles

W. H. Gilbert, an old and well known citizen of this place, died very suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. R. Anderson, last night. Mr. Gilbert had been in good health, except for a catarrhal affection, which however, did not appear to be of a serious nature, and retired about 9 o’clock. Shortly afterward his daughter heard him making a noise, as if choking, and she called to him. He did not respond, and Mr. Anderson went to his bed, but too late to be of assistance to him as he died almost immediately.

Mr. Gilbert was a comrade of John Miller Post, G.A.R., and will be buried by that order here tomorrow. He was a man highly respected by everyone, and his unexpected death was quite a shock to the community.—St. Charles correspondent in Register of March 31st.

Note: Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
