Berneice Isabell Travis was born on September 6, 1930 in Madison, Nebraska; the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Paytzel) Weiand. She was united in marriage to James Travis and he preceded her in death in 1993. Recently Berneice has been residing at the Madison Square Apartments in Winterset, and she passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2008 in Winterset at the age of 77.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Ralph Gray, three brothers and one sister. Berneice is survived by two sons, Vince (Dana) Travis and Bryce (Nancy) Travis; two daughters, Letha Hinkle and Debbie Haley; one sister, Gladys Whitehead; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Middle River Hospice of Winterset.
