Lavina C. Beyer, was born July 3, 1827, in Huntingdon county, Pennsylvania, and united with the Methodist Episcopal church. Married to Martin B. Travis January 20, 1847, to this union were born 9 children, one died in infancy, five sons and three daughters were left to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother. The children are Sylvester N., John B., Thomas H., Samuel Clark & Mrs. Nina Schoenenberger all living near Peru; William M. and Mrs. Mary Foresman, of Winterset, and Mrs. Eva Foster, of Great Bend, Kansas. There are forty-one grandchildren living and seven dead, sixteen great-grandchildren living, and one dead.
Came from Pennsylvania to Winterset in October, 1855 and moved to the farm near Peru, the following January; where her husband died April 1, 1879. For the past four years she had resided in East Peru, where she had established a home of her own. Mother Travis was in poor health for some months, but only confined to her bed about ten days, and at 4:30 a.m., June 22, 1903, aged 75 years, 11 months and 20 days, she was released from her suffering and entered the rest, she longed for during her sickness.
The funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. Williams, of the Winterset circuit, assisted by Rev. Wilkins, at the M. E. church, June 23. Interment at the Peru cemetery.

Mrs. Albert Foster, of Great Bend, Kans., youngest daughter of grandma Travis, was called here by the serious illness of her mother who died the 22d. Mrs. J. Foresman and Wm. Travis of Winterset were also with their mother and with the children who live here and attended her through her last sickness. Funeral will be held at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon.
