MYRTLE ALLEN, WINTERSET

Myrtle Allen, 85, of Winterset died June 8, 2008, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 11) at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6:30–7:30 p.m. The body has been cremated, with the cremains being interred at the Worthington Cemetery in Madison County. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Myrtle Allen was born June 20, 1922, in Madison County to Clyde and Lois (Knox) Chamberlain. Her marriage to Oscar Kenneth Allen took place Nov. 22, 1942, in Madison County. Myrtle had been the food service director at Madison County Memorial Hospital for many years. She also was the food service director at Horton’s Nursing Home before her retirement. A lifetime resident of Madison County, she was a graduate of Winterset High School and a member of the Worthington United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Olive Ralston and Florence Ruddick; and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by two daughters, Bev Handley of Glenwood and Marcia Linderman of Glendale, Ariz.; three sons, Frank Allen of Yuma, Ariz., Randal Allen of North Wilkesboro, N.C., and John Allen of Baton Rouge, La.; and 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
