Obituary

Martha Ann Beard was born June 18, 1888, at Maplegrove, Madison county, Ia. Her short and uneventful life was spent in practically the same surroundings in which she was born.

For some time she had not enjoyed good health but not until her recent sickness was she thought to be in a serious condition. In spite of the efforts made by the attending physicians and the nursing of the anxious loved ones, after a few weeks of pain and suffering she died at 1:15 p.m., June 7, 1904, aged 15 years, 11 months and 18 days.

She gave her heart to the Lord during the meetings which were held last winter in the Evangelical church at Maple Grove, and shortly afterwards joined the same. Her father, mother, and four sisters and four brothers who remain to mourn her loss are cheered by the thought that until the last her faith in God was unbroken, and rejoiced in the hope that if faithful to God they will as an unbroken family with their loved ones who have gone before. May God grant it.

The funeral services were held at the Maple Grove church by Rev. O. M. Yaggy, their former pastor, after which the body was interred in the Hooten cemetery.
