Dr. Raymond W. Carson, 83, of Waterloo died May 20, 2008, at Friendship Village Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, at St. Edward Catholic Church. Entombment was in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum, with flag folding rites performed by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Memorials may be directed to St. Edward Catholic Church. Arrangements were handled by Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service in Waterloo.
Dr. Raymond Carson was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Des Moines to Harry and Lillian (Walker) Carson. His marriage to Margaret Georgia Bussanmas took place June 9, 1948, in Churchville. Raymond graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1947 and served his internship in Flint, Mich. He practiced medicine in Winterset for 25 years and in Waterloo until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the American Board of Family Practice and a veteran of the Army Medical Corps, of which he served during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Carson.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; five daughters, Margaret Szumowski of Springfield Mass., Patricia Carson of Los Angeles, Calif., Georgeen Carson of Glenview, Ill., Kathleen Carson Asher of Oakland, Calif., and Christine Kuramoto of Milwaukee, Wis.; one son, Steven Carson of Washington, D.C.; and nine grandchildren.
