Mr. W. H. Cook, of Jackson township, died at an early hour last Wednesday morning. He was taken sick only the Saturday previous, though he had suffered more or less for a long time from the disease which finally caused his death, an affliction of the stomach and bowels. Mr. Cook was a man of fifty-seven years of age, and had resided for twenty years or more in western Madison county and eastern Adair. He leaves a wife, two sons and two daughters, all the children being now grown up. The funeral was held at the home today and the remains were brought to the Winterset cemetery for burial.

The deceased was a member of the Masonic fraternity, and in accordance with his wish the burial service was conducted by Winona Lodge, at Pitzer, of which he was a member, assisted by a delegation from Evening Star Lodge of this place.

Died.—W. H. Cook, of Jackson township, died last Wednesday after a four days illness with stomach and bowel trouble. A wife, two daughters and two sons mourn his loss. He was about 60 years old, and had lived in Madison county about 20 years.
The Pitzer Masonic lodge, assisted by masons from Winterset had the funeral service in charge and the remains were buried in Winterset cemetery.

Obituary.

William H. Cook was born in Mansfield, Richland county, Ohio, July 20, 1839. Died October 28, 1896, aged 57 years, 3 months and 8 days.

Deceased emigrated to Linn county, Iowa, in 1855. Was united in marriage with Louisa J. Barnes, June 27, 1862. With her emigrated to Madison county, Iowa, in 1873, and has been a resident of the county since. His wife and four children still survive him; two sons and two daughters, all of whom were at his bedside at his last moments.

The funeral services were conducted by the writer at the home of the deceased on Friday, after which a large company of sympathizing friends followed the remains to their last resting place at Winterset, where at the grave our brother was buried with the solemn, imposing honors of the Masonic order of which for years he had been an honored member.

His life was beautiful and his final triumph glorious. P. C. Stire.
