Page 2WILL TODHUNTER DROWNED.
Lost His Life in the Des Moines River Near Madrid.
Word was received here yesterday that Will Todhunter had been drowned the evening before in the Des Moines river, near Madrid, but no particulars have yet been received.
Will was formerly a Winterset boy, being the son of B. S. Todhunter, a former resident of this city. Later he lived at Peru, and at the time of his death he was at Madrid, where he was employed in an abstract office and was studying law.
The body was taken to Peru where the funeral was held today under the auspices of the Odd Fellows lodge of that place. Several from this place attended. Will was a bright young man and much sympathy is expressed for his stricken relatives.

Page 8Sad Drowning.
Most everybody in Winterset knew W. P. Todhunter. He used to live in this city and was widely respected by all our people, consequently when the sad news of his untimely death was known here there was universal feelings of sorrow. Mr. Todhunter was drowned in the Des Moines river at Madrid Wednesday, June 17th. With another young gentleman he was in bathing, and accidentally stepped off into deep water, sinking never to rise more. The body was recovered the next day and brought to the home of his parents in East Peru Friday, at which place he was laid to rest.
The I.O.O.F. fraternity of East Peru, Winterset and Truro, had charge of the ceremonies and the funeral was one of the largest in the history of that village.
Deceased was studying law in Madrid at the time of his death with J. W. Near, a prominent attorney of that place and had a bright future before him, being only 23 years of age. Mr. Near and wife attended the funeral and were sorely grieved over the sad affair. They speak in the highest terms of the departed one, as do also all who knew him.
