Page 5Mr. J. C. Grandfield, an old citizen of Grand River township, died suddenly last Saturday afternoon, of paralysis. The funeral was held on Sunday, at the church three miles south of Macksburg, the interment being at the Moon cemetery. A very large concourse of neighbors and friends attended the services. In accordance with a wish which Mr. Grandfield had expressed, the Masonic fraternity, of which he was a member, took charge of the burial service. His own lodge, Venus Lodge, No. 403, at Macksburg, and a delegation of six from Evening Star Lodge, at this place, conducted the ceremonies.
Mr. Grandfield was a native of England, in which country he was born in 1834. He came to America in 1855, and settled in this county in 1856. He leaves several grown up sons and daughters.

Pageg 5DIED.—The death of Dr. Granfield, a farmer living near Macksburg, was a very sudden affair. It occurred Saturday at about three o’clock. The family had eaten dinner and Mr. Granfield went into the front room. He had not complained and it was not supposed he was sick. About an hour after dinner some of the family followed him into the front room and found him stone dead in his chair. Paralysis is the cause assigned for his death. He was an old resident of that section of the county and the father of a large family now mostly grown. The funeral occurred Sunday and was conducted by the Masonic fraternity of Macksburg and Winterset.
