Another Old Settler Gone.

Mr. John S. Bard, of Scott township, died very suddenly at his home Sunday night. He was quite advanced in years, but was till very lately in general good health for one of his age.

Mr. Bard removed to this county from Trumbull county, Ohio, in the late fifties, and settled in the original Stringtown. About 1862 he returned to Ohio for a year or two. Coming back here he entered the army in 1864. He then lived a short time in Walnut township, when he again removed to Douglas township, and bought the place directly west of the Stringtown school house, which he owned till a few years ago.

In the early seventies he rented his farm and removed his family to Indianola, where they remained two or three years, when they removed to Winterset, and a few years later back to the farm. Three or four years ago he sold his Douglas township farm and bought the David Clearwater place east of the Holliwell bridge, in Scott township, which was his last place of residence.

Mr. Bard leaves a wife and five daughters, three of whom live in Chicago and two here. Those living in Chicago started for Winterset yesterday evening. The funeral services are being held this afternoon at the late residence, the burial being in the Winterset cemetery.
