The mortal remains of Elizabeth C. Wallace, daughter of A. L. and Lorinda Wallace, were borne from the family residence on Third street and interred in Floyd cemetery yesterday.

There was manifested during the sad hours preceding the interment more heartfelt sorrow for the bereaved parents than we have seen at any funeral during the year. During the sad mement [moment] when the corpse was removed from the residence, among the large circle of friends there was not a tearless eye; and it was truly a sad scene to listen to the heart-rending wailings of the family, the sighs of sorrowing friends, and the cries of the group of little ones who had been the playmates of the dead child.

Cordelia Wallace was a girl of singularly sweet and gentle disposition – bright, vivacious and intelligent; and heartily do we mingle our condolence with her afflicted parents with that of the many by whom the departed child was known and belyved. [beloved] The large procession which followed the remains to the last resting place was a worthy and appropriate evidence of the wide condolence, sorrow and sympathy.

Rev. E. H. Avery conducted the burial service.

Elizabeth Cordelia Wallace, the subject of this brief sketch, was born on November 27, 1868, and died August 16, 1878, at 2:30 p.m.
