HAZEL DEAN, WINTERSET

Hazel L. Dean, 92, of Winterset died April 24, 2008, at her daughter’s residence in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 28, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Patterson United Methodist Church or Middle River Hospice.

Hazel Dean was born April 12, 1916, in Adair County to William and Clara (Konop) Hines. She grew up in Adair County and following her Oct. 10, 1936, marriage to Howard Leo Dean in Winterset, moved to Madison County where she spent the rest of her life. Hazel had been a homemaker. She also authored poetry books in 1977 and 1997, and a cookbook in 1994. Hazel was a member of three different garden clubs and the Patterson United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Kenneth Hines, Russell Hines and Gerald Hines; an infant sister, Dorothy Hines; and a granddaughter, Lisa Faux.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Dean of Ankeny and Larry Dean of Winterset; two daughters, Joyce Stanford of Des Moines and Sheryl Faux of Winterset; and 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
