Amanda J. Gross, daughter of Wm. M. and Louisa J. Gross was born at Saltilo, Ind., Oct. 15, 1854 and departed this life at Walkerville, Michigan, March 1, 1916, aged 61 years, 4 months and 17 days.
She was married to C. H. Rathbun of Salem, Washington county, Indiana, Aug. 14, 1877. To this union were born two sons and one daughter: Leard C., Claudie and Annie E. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, one son, three grand children, two sisters, two brothers and a host of friends. Claudie and Annie E. having preceded her in childhood.
She joined the Baptist church at the age of thirteen years, continuing a member till her marriage after which she willingly joined the Methodist church, of which her husband was a member. She lived a consistent christian life to the end, helping one and all when she could; always looking on the bright side of whatever the day might bring forth.
She was a resident of Iowa for ten years; two years at DeSoto and the remaining eight in the vicinity of Winterset.
