Wednesday, January 12, 1916JOHN FREDERICK EIVINS
John Frederick Eivins was born on Dec. 20, 1833 in Estel county, Kentucky, and died at his home in Macksburg, Iowa, Jan. 6, 1916 as a result of an attack of la grippe. He was 82 years, 17 days old at the time of his death.
He moved with his family to Madison county, Iowa, 23 years ago and has resided on a farm north of Macksburg for several years, until his health failed, when he moved to town, where he has resided since. He was married to Miss Evaline Smith on January 18, 1857 at Schuyler, Mo., which happy union lasted 57 years. To this union 12 children were born all of whom are now living and were present at the funeral.
He leaves to mourn the loss, four daughters, eight sons, 40 grand children and nine great grand children, besides a host of friends and neighbors. The daughters are Carrie, Alice, Bertie of Macksburg and Mrs. Sophronia Bates of Grand River township. The sons are J.M. Eivins of Salem, S.D.; B. G. Eivins of Kent, Iowa; and J.H., I.N., W.O., E.D. and W. J. Eivins of Macksburg and vicintiy.
He was converted in early life and has been an active and devoted member of the Methodist church for 49 years, almost a half century. His neighbors and ex-pastors speak in the most flattering terms of his life.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday, Jan. 8th at 11 a.m. The services were in charge of Rev. Fred E. Whitney, his pastor, and the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Roy Spooner of Lorimor, a former pastor. Interment was in the Macksburg cemetery.
