Orval Auten, 74, of Winterset died March 7, 2008, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 10, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Father Chris Hartshorn officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorials received will be directed by the family for future designation.
Orval Auten was born March 5, 1934, in Parnell, Mo., to Charlie and Opal (Adams) Auten. He married Katherine Elizabeth Gaa on Jan. 5, 1955, in Maryville, Mo. A lifetime farmer, Orval lived in several towns in Iowa before settling in Dexter in 1986. He had been a resident of Winterset since 2005.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles Michael Auten; eight brothers and sisters; and one grandchild, Michael Foley.
He is survived by his wife, Katie, of Winterset; three sons, Orval Auten Jr. of Kent, Harold Auten of Villisca and Roger Auten of Creston; four daughters, Julia Foley, Lisa Kyle and Donna Jean McFarland, all of Winterset, and Tina Long of Greenfield; a brother, four sisters; and 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
