VERL W. DILLINGER, Peru, Iowa

Verl W. Dillinger, 101, of Peru, Iowa, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at his home.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, at the Peru United Methodist Church. Visitation was held Thursday, March 6, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset. Burial was at the Peru Cemetery. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Peru United Methodist Church.

Verl was born Jan. 22, 1907, in Page County, Iowa, to Will and Etta (Libby) Dillinger. His marriage to Inez Marguerite Amerine took place June 5, 1927, in Clarinda, Iowa.

Verl had been a resident of Peru since 1932, having previously resided in Clarinda. He had been a farmer and a member of the Peru United Methodist Church, a Federal Land Bank director for 30 years, involved with the Boy Scouts for 20 years, a Walnut Township trustee for several years, and a former mayor of Peru. Verl also loved to collect old tools, camp and fish.

Verl is survived by his children — Bill (Annette) Dillinger of Peru, Harold (Bulah) Dillinger of Peru, Donald (Carolyn) Dillinger of Walford, Larry (Linda) Dillinger of Bella Vista, Ark., Marilyn (Wayne Cowden) Hull of Van Meter, and Richard (Lois) Dillinger of Peru; and 20 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 68 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Verl was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Etta (Libby) Dillinger; his wife, Inez Dillinger; a son, Robert Verl Dillinger; two brothers, Orlie Dillinger and Clarence Dillinger; a sister, Lois Robson; and five grandchildren.
