Flora Allen Lowe, Phoenix, Ariz

Flora Allen Lowe former long time resident of Winterset, died Monday, Aug. 12, at the Christian Care home in Phoenix, Ariz.

Following a private cremation, memorial services were held at the Mountain View Christian Church Chapel in Phoenix on Friday, Aug. 16.

Officiating were clergymen, Rev. Tom Snavely and nursing home chaplain Lynn Dietz.

Mrs. Lowe, daughter of William H. and Ida Mae Goodman, was born Dec. 22, 1899 at Urbana, Ill.

At the age of 5 months she went to Webster City, Iowa with her family. Later, at the age of eight, the family moved to Dows, Iowa where she finished her education, including a normal training course at Ellsworth College at Iowa Falls.

In the year 1920 she came to Winterset, and taught in the rural schools for several years.

She was married to Ray Allen on Aug. 18, 1922; Ray preceded her in death on March 4, 1967. The couple had one son, Ray, Jr.

As a child she joined the Methodist Church and transferred to the First Christian Church in 1923. She taught in the primary and junior department of the church for many years and also took an active part in the women’s fellowship.

While residing in Winterset, she was a member of Child Welfare Club and also of Pythian Sisters since 1932.

She was married to Ross Lowe on Jan. 8, 1972, and moved to Rogers, Ark. Her husband died on Jan. 22, 1973. In April, 1973 she moved to Phoenix.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers-Jess, Harry, and William and one sister, Nettie Burd. She leaves her son, Ray, Jr. of Phoenix; grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Montana and Michigan, one sister, Iva Wooten of Goldfield, Iowa; and one brother , Ed Goodman of Spirit Lake.

After moving to Phoenix, she transferred her membership from the Winterset Christian Church to the Larkspur Christian Church in Phoenix.

Final rites will be held at a future date in Winterset.
