Page 1MRS. ABIGAIL PEACOCK DIGGS DIES NEAR EARLHAM
Mrs. Abigail Peacock Diggs, daughter of Amos and Hannah Peacock, was born in Randolph County, Indiana on the twelfth month, fourth day, 1825. She departed this life on the ninth month, seventh day, 1895 being 69 years, nine months and three days old. She was married to the now bereaved husband, Joseph C. Diggs, eleventh month, seventh day, 1850. The marriage ceremony was solemnized in the Friends...Rand..(unreadable) Indiana, she being a birthright member of that meeting. .
Her union was blessed with three children, all of whom were at her bedside when she quietly breathed her last and passed in to that higher, better and happier abode above. She leaves two brothers, William and Elijah Peacock, who live in Winchester, Indiana, and one sister Anna Diggs, wife of Pleasant W. Diggs living near Earlham, Iowa, and many friends to mourn the loss.
She and her family moved from Indiana to near Earlham, Iowa in the spring of 1871 residing since that time on the same farm. She was a devoted wife and mother, a good mother and a faithful and consistent member of the church. Her duties and physical infirmities kept her the greater part of her time within her own doors. She was a great sufferer nearly all her life, especially in the last two years, during which time she bore her suffering with great patience and in humble submission awaiting her Master's call.
She spoke to those who consistently attended her at different time these words to her sister she said, "Thee has no idea what I suffer, but I can bear it all for Jesus' sake." To others she said, "I am ready to go, just waiting, I'm in Jesus' arms.
Funeral services were held at the residence on the ninth at two o'clock p.m. at which time the Twenty Third Psalm was read, that being her most favorite chapter. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the kindred, kind friends and neighbors for their many kindnesses and assistance in the sickness and death of our loved one. Joseph C. Diggs & children
