Death of Mrs. John Herren

Mrs. John L. Herren of Perry, died at the age of 72 years on December 9 and was buried December 11. Since she suffered a sunstroke in August, her health had been failing.

Mrs. Herren, before her marriage, was Susan Bruce, daughter of the late Richard Bruce. Besides her husband she is survived by three children; Charles Herren of Grand River township; Mrs. Adda Wirt of Mansfield, Wash., and Mrs. Lillian Boldt of Perry.

The family lived in Madison county prior to their removal to Perry, hence possess many old friends who will sorrow in their bereavement.

Mrs. John Herren Dead

The funeral of Mrs. John Herren, formerly of Grand River township and Winterset was held in Perry Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Herren was Miss Susan Bruce, daughter of Richard Bruce, and grew to womanhood on the old farm just west of the city.

She is survived by her husband who has lived in Perry since removing from Winterset. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ramsey, Mrs. Carl Kelso; Greg and Robert Niblo and several other relatives attended the funeral.

MRS. JOHN L. HERREN

Susan Virginia Bruce was born at Mt. Sterling, Ill., Sept. 5, 1849 and passed away at her home in Perry, Iowa, Dec. 9, 1921.

When she was only one year of age, her parents moved to Iowa and settled at Winterset. In this vicinity she grew to womanhood and married John L. Herren, who survives her. She is also survived by three children: Mrs. Walter Bolt of Perry, Chas. Herren of Macksburg and Ms. Addie Wirt of Mansfield, Wash.

At an early age, she was converted and became a member of the M. E. church, and has always held to her faith in her Lord. Having lived in the days of the pioneer and having been a faithful wife and mother, she has contributed much to society, and the world is better for her having lived.

Funeral services were held in Perry on Dec. 18th.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. HERREN

Were Held Yesterday Afternoon at the Home—Many Friends Gather to Pay Tribute

Funeral services for Mrs. J. L. Herren, whose death occurred Friday, were held yesterday afternoon at the home, 2406 McKinley avenue. The residence was filled with friends relatives and neighbors, all of them anxious to express, either with sympathetic words or floral tokens the esteem in which she was held, Rev. C. E. Chambers, pastor of the Christian church, had charge of the services, with the musical numbers given by Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Duncan and Miss Lois Jones. The pallbearers were Oscar Bever, Henry Lisle, Frank Bartlett, W. F. Graham, H. C. Senff and Elmer Diddy. Burial was at Violet Hill cemetery.

Susana Virginia Bruce was born at Mt. Sterling, Ill., Sept. 5th, 1849 and passed away at her home in Perry, Iowa, December 9th, 1921. She was therefore aged 72 years, three months and four days at the time of her departure.

When she was only one year of age, her parents moved to Iowa and settled at Winterset, Madison county. In that vicinity she grew to womanhood, and, on April 20th, was married to John L. Herren, who survives her. She is also survived by three children. They are Mrs. Walter Bolt of Perry, Charles Herren of Macksburg, Ia., and Mrs. Addie Wirt, of Mansfield, Washington. Besides the children and husband she leaves many relatives and friends who mourn because of her going.

At an early age in life she was converted and become a member of the M. E. church and while in late years she has not found it possible to be regular in church attendance she has always held to her faith in her Lord, and has shown a degree of patience and fortitude in the days of her suffering that is born of faith in a risen Redeemer.

Having lived in the days of the pioneer, and having been a faithful wife and mother, she has contributed much to society and the world is better for her having lived.

There were a number of relatives and friends from out of the city who were here to attend the funeral, among them Mr. and Mrs. C. F. St. Johns, of Des Moines; Mrs. And Mrs. R. F. Niblo, Mr. and Mrs. Greg Niblo, Mrs. Nata Chase, Mrs and Mrs. J. A. Ramsay and Mrs. Carl Kelso, all of Winterset; Mrs. P. C. Herren, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Steel, Mrs. F. B. Shell, Charles Herren and daughter of Macksburg, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Stark, of Mt Vernon, South Dakota.

MOTHER OF MRS. WALTER BOLT DIES

Passed Away This Morning at the Home on McKinley Avenue—Funeral Sunday P. M.

Mrs. J. M. Herron, mother of Mrs. Walter Bolt, passed away shortly after eight o’clock this morning at the family home, 2406 McKinley avenue, following an illness of two weeks. The news of her death has brought sorrow to many friends of the family and to the neighbors who knew her intimately.

Mrs. Herren has been in failing health since last summer. She was overcome by the heat while picking raspberries at the home and altho she apparently recovered from that attack a gradual paralysis, which finally affected the entire right side, took place Two weeks ago today her condition became such that she was unable to leave her bed and since that time her decline has been rapid.

Mrs. Herren is survived by her husband, one son and two daughters. They are Charles Herren of Macksburg, Iowa; Mrs. T. D. Wirtz, of Mansfield, Washington and Mrs. Walter Bolt of this city. She had been a resident of Perry for thirteen years.

The funeral services will be held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 and will be in charge of Rev. C. E. Chambers, pastor of the Christian church.
