Mr. David Brinson, aged 87 years, passed away at the home of his nephew A.F. Leroy on the E.M. Thomas farm at two o'clock this afternoon. He has been visiting here about two months, having previously lived for over 70 years in California. Senile decay was the cause of his death. The funeral will be held at Winterset at two p.m. Saturday.

DANIEL BRINSON

Daniel Brinson was the pioneer boot and shoe merchant of Hollister, Calif. His advent into that state was made as early as 1853, when he came from Winterset, Madison county, Iowa. He was a native of Ripley county, Indiana and was born at Versailles on Feb. 14, 1835. His father, John, was born on the Licking river in Kentucky. He was a farmer by occupation and his wife was Elizabeth Wade. They had twelve children born to them before they removed to Iowa, where they reared their large family.

Upon coming to California, Mr. Brinson engaged in mining for a short time with indifferent success. He then - - lumbering at Redwood City for a time. His next venture was a boot and shoe factory in Monterey, which he started in 1862. In 1864 he removed to Santa Clara county, where he resided and carried on business until 1871, when he came to Hollister, where he has since been engaged in the same occupation.

Mr. Brinson was married in 1859 to Miss Lucinda Vorgas, a native of California, born at Los Angeles. The marriage ceremony took place in Monterey. Mr. and Mrs. Brinson are high respected and esteemed among a large circle of friends.

Mr. Brinson died Oct. 12, 1921, aged 87 years, while visiting at the home of his nephew, A. F. LeRoy, near Earlham. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon in the Church of Christ, conducted by Rev. E. B. Chancellor; burial following in the Winterset cemetery.

His nephews and nieces who survive are these: Mrs. A. F. LeRoy of Earlham of Earlham, Mrs. Mary A. Welker of Des Moines; Mrs. Elizabeth Piper of Troy, Kans.; Mrs. Ellen Benner of Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. L. A. Merrill of Galena, Kans.; C. E. and Wm. Jessup of Winterset and George Jessup.
