Death of MRS. JOSEPH ZELLER

Lieut. Joseph Zeller received a telegram Friday afternoon containing the sad tidings of the death of his wife from pneumonia in Fitchburg, Mass. He left at once via Peru for Camp Dodge where he was under orders to report for discharge, receiving eleven days' extension of his furlough. He expected to arrive in Fitchburg on Monday.

The circumstances of Mrs. Zeller's death are not known to Mr. and Mrs E. R. Zeller aside from the information brought by their son on his arrival here on April 27th. Lieut. Zeller was married to Miss Katharine Hall last June about two weeks prior to his departure overseas. He arrived in Fitchburg April 10, finding that Mrs. Zeller had undergone an operation on her throat and though still suffering from the anaesthetic, she was growing better. Their original plan of coming to Winterset for a visit the week after his landing was changed, Lieut Zeller remaining with her two weeks. He came here to visit his parents expecting her to follow a week later.

Two telegrams arrived last week stating that she was improving, as did a letter from her received on Thursday. The message which came the next day was a terrible blow to the young husband and with him on his long journey eastward, went the profound sysmpathy of the scores of friends of the Zeller family. Lieut Zeller's sad bereavement has caused genuine sorrow throughout this community.
