Obituary - ISAAC COFFMAN

Isaac Coffman was born in Holmes County, Ohio, September 11, 1845, and died at his home in Winterset, Iowa, aged 67 years, 11 months and 22 days.

He moved to Indiana with his parents when a child and to Polk County, Iowa, when 10 years of age. He was married in Polk county, Iowa to Miss Mary E. Scarborough of Polk county, July 2, 1874. To them were born five children, three girls and two boys, Nora, May, Ida Isadora, who died Oct. 26, 1901, Hattie Belle, Thomas E. and Benjamin H. The children all live near Winterset except B. H. who lives at Omaha, Nebr. Besides the children who mourn his death, the wife, two brothers, two sisters and five grand children survive.

He came to Madison county in July 1886 and lived a quiet, industrious life on a farm, until the spring of 1912, when he came to Winterset.

He enlisted in the civil war March 22, 1864 and served the rest of the war. On coming to Madison county he joined the G.A.R. Craven Post, at Macksburg, and was a member until the post was destroyed by fire.

He was converted and joined the M. E. church in 1890, and lived a consistent christian life. The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church at two o'clock, Wednesday by W. G. Hchamchelt, with the G.A.R. ritual service at the church. Burial was in the Rock City cemetery.

Isaac Coffman was born in Holmes county, Ohio, Sept. 11, 1845 and died at his home in Winterset, Ia., Sept. 1, aged 67 years, 11 months and 21 days.

He moved with his parents to Indiana and from there to Polk county, Iowa, when ten years old. He married Miss Mary E. Scarbrough July 2, 1874 in Polk county, Iowa. To them were born five children, three girls and two sons, Nora May, Ida Isadora, who died Oct. 26, 1901, Hattie Bell, Thomas E. and Benjamin H. Besides the four living children, he leaves his wife, two brothers, two sisters and five grandchildren to mourn his departure. The children all live here but one who lives at Omaha.

He came to Madison county in July 1886 and lived a contented and useful life on the farm until the spring of 1912 when he came to Winterset.

He joined the M.E. church in 1890 and was an honored and beloved man. Funeral was held Wednesday in the M.E. church at 2 o’clock conducted by Rev. Hohanshelt and interment was made in the Rock City cemetery.
