Merle Duane Patterson, 68, of Osceola died of cancer Oct. 16, 2002, at his daughter's home in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 19, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Marty Burgus officiating. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola.

Merle Patterson was born Aug 1, 1934, in Osceola to Claude and Pauline (Woods) Patterson. He was a 1952 graduate of Osceola High School. On Nov. 23, 1958, he married Mary Ann Travis in Winterset. Merle, a farmer, was a lifetime resident of Clarke County. He was a member of Osceola Eagles Lodge - Aerie 3495 (Charter member). He also had been on the Clarke County Election Board and a trustee in Ward Township. He attended the First Christian Church in Osceola.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

He is survived by three daughters, Shelly Grandfield (husband Rick) of Lorimor, Melanie Bohle (husband Keith) of Kingsley and Stacey Lowe (husband Clayton) of Winterset; his parents, Claude and Pauline Patterson of Osceola; a sister, Myrna Newkirk (husband Jim) of Hendersonville, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
