Mary Harriett Kirby, 92, died Sept. 23, 2003, at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 27, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Charles Compton officiating. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Clarke County.
Mary Kirby was born June 1, 1911, to George Alva and Lizzie (Kirk) Simmerman of Murray. She graduated from Murray High School in 1928 and attended Drake University. On Jan. 17, 1931, she married Howard Vernon Kirby in Indianola. They resided in the Murray area. Mary taught in the Truro and Interstate 35 school districts until retirement in 1973. Following the death of her husband in 1974, she moved to Truro where she worked at Kale Funeral Home. In 1976, she moved to Osceola and six years ago to the Rowley Home. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Osceola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Aubrey, Robert, George and David Simmerman; four sisters, Nellie Housh, Helen Spellerberg, Gladys Drew and Bessie Burnett.
She is survived by three daughters, Joyce Roberts of Rippey, Janis Dorman of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Susan Cronin of Riverside; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
