Rev. P. W. Jellison was born in Augusta, Maine, September 7, 1820, and died in Des Moines, Iowa, January 11, 1899, while visiting his children, aged 78 years, 4 months and 4 days.

In 1841 he married Louvina Wilcox in Ohio. To this union were born 12 children. Those living are as follows: Mrs. Arabelle Thornburg, Conneaut, Ohio; Rev. James S. Jellison, Adrian, Michigan; Mrs. Emma Williams, Des Moines; Mrs. Ella J. Ford, Douglas township, Madison county, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Kale, Des Moines, Iowa; Colonel Ellsworth Jellison of Des Moines.

Losing the companion of his youth, he came to Iowa in 1869 and united in marriage with Mrs. Minerva Myres of Winterset. To them were born three children: Mrs. Corda Schaub of Des Moines and Miss Jessie Jellison of Winterset, are living.

He united with the Christian church in early life and for many years preached the gospel, eight years of which he was deprived of sight, having cataracts over both his eyes. This difficulty being partially removed, he became more actively employed in life's duties. He was once pastor of the Christian church at Winterset and president of the Des Moines Christian Conference. He served three terms as mayor of Winterset and two terms as justice of peace. He also served as city assessor and felt a deep interest in the welfare of the community. For several years he has been confined to his room and although cared for by the patient devotion of his faithful companion, yet in his own language, "Life became a burden and hung heavily upon him". Once during the past summer he took a buggy ride with the writer, Rev. Follansbee, it being the first time he had seen the city for several years. He felt very anxious to visit his children residing at Des Moines and accordingly, accompanied by his wife, he took the trip two weeks ago. The difficulty which has rendered his life so miserable, seemed to be aggravated by the excitement of the change and he never rallied from the attack. He gave to all the blissful assurance that the Christ he once earnestly preached, was his trust and everlasting Savior. May God direct all his family to live in readiness to meet him at the family reunion to be held in a short time in the paradise of God.

His funeral services were held at the Christian church at Winterset, conducted by Rev. L. E. Follansbee, assisted by the pastors of the city, and his remains taken to the Worthington cemetery for interment.
