W. B. Allen, an old and highly respected citizen of Scott township, died at his home near the Elm Grove church on Monday morning, after a decline of many months. Burial in the Sayre cemetery on Tuesday. The remains of his late wife were laid to rest in the cemetery at Indianola about a fort-night ago.

Uncle Wm. Allen, who had been sick for a long time, died on the morning of the 17th – less than three weeks after the death of his wife.

Word was received on Thursday evening of the death of William Allen, which proved to be a mistake, as he did not die until the morning of the (18th)?, just seventeen days after the death of his wife.

Obituary - Wm B. Allen was born in Clinton county, Missouri, February 11, 1832, removed with his parents to Warren county, Iowa 1847, from there to Madison county in 1854. He was married to Margaret Allcock January 9, 1853, to this union were born 4 boys and 4 girls of which 3 boys and 1 girl is still living, the other four having died in childhood. His wife dying November 6, 1867 he was married to Frances E. Ray November 25, 1867, to this union were born two children both boys of which one is still living the other dying in infancy.

The wife dying March 5, 1896 he was married to Hannah M. Headrick November 25, 1896. She dying July 31, 1903 leaving him in poor health until August 17, 1903, when the messenger Death came and called him for his own.

Father Allen was converted and joined the Methodist church when but young in years, being one of the pioneers of the old Elm Grove church, and living an examplary (exemplary) christian life in the same, always ready to give his support to the church liberally, and as such will be greatly missed in the church.

Father Allen was a good citizen and neighbor always ready to lend a helping hand to the needy. But while we shall miss him as a citizen, and in the home and church we realize that he has gone to join the church triumphant, where there shall be no more separation of loved ones and no more aches or pains, which he endured so patience in his affliction.
