Donald Lorraine Kennedy, 84, of New Virginia Died August 6, 2001, of complications of Alzheimer's disease at Winterset Care Center North. Funeral services are today (August 10) at 2 p.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. Pastor Gary Morris of New Virginia and Merrie Tuttle will officiate the services and burial will follow at New Virginia Cemetery.
He was born March 2, 1917 in Jamison to Ancel and Clara Hazel (Fry) Kennedy. He married Vilna Tuttle on August 21, 1943 in St. Charles. He lived near Truro prior to moving to New Virginia and served with the Iowa National Guard in Louisiana. He was employed by Solar Aircraft in Des Moines for several years and farmed for many years in agriculture and dairy. He also drove a school bus for Interstate 35 School District for many years and was a member of the New Virginia Lions Club and Grace Baptist Church in New Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and an infant sister.
Surviving relatives include his wife; five sons, Roger Kennedy and wife Ginny of Emporia, Kansas, Gordon Kennedy and wife Sandra of Bedford, Ancel Kennedy and wife Cindy of Truro, Leroy Kennedy and wife Bev of Lamoni and Jim Kennedy and wife Cindy of Washington; five daughters, Donna Denly and husband David of Ollie, Marguerite Rockey and husband Herb of Kennewick, Washington, Phyllis O'Hair and husband Jim of VanWert, Karen Cooley and husband Jerry of New Virginia and Bonnie Simmerman and husband Don of Truro; one brother Herbert Kennedy and wife Marilyn of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Edwina Foley and husband Jake of New Virginia, Virginia Lympus and husband Ernest of Ridgeland, Mississippi and Helen Blair and husband Kenneth of Osceola; 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
