Thelma Glee Downs, 85, of St. Charles died Jan. 26, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Jan. 30) at the St. Charles Parish Church with the Rev. Jim Pemble officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Charles Library or the St. Charles Parish Scholarship Fund. Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
Thelma Downs was born Feb. 5, 1922, to Cecil H. and Edna Fays (Duncan) Wharff of Wick. She grew up in the Wick and St. Charles areas, graduating from St. Charles High School. She was united in marriage to Dwight Frank Downs on Oct. 5, 1940, in Winterset. Thelma, a homemaker, was a member of the Monday AM quilting group, Eastern Star and St. Charles Parish Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Cecil Glenn; and a brother, Cecil Wharff Jr.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Duggin of Hendersonville, N.C., and Elizabeth Allsup of St. Charles; one son, Frank Downs of Boone; and four grandchildren.
