George Rose
Born July 11, 1838
Died Sept. 18, 1915

The subject of this sketch was born in Hillbourough, Illinois and died at 11:30 o'clock on Sept. 18, at Dinuba, Calif. Death was to acute pneumonia.

Mr. and Mrs. Rose in company with their son, Milt, wife and child left the 25th day of August for a tour of the west and a trip to the Exposition at San Francisco.

Death came suddenly and unexpectedly while the party was visiting at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Clara Heimbach.

Mr. Rose had not been feeling very well but got up as usual Saturday morning and ate a light breakfast after which he had lain down as he complained of not feeling well. A physician was summoned and immediately responded to the call but the spirit had left its house of clay.

When Mr. Rose was a young child his parents moved to Winterset, Iowa where he resided for a number of years. In 1862 he was united in marriage to Miss Susan H. Street. The young couple moved to Madison county, Iowa where he followed his chosen vocation for life, that of farming. In 1887 he and his family moved to Eastern Colorado. For (a) number of years Mr. and Mrs. Rose have lived on "Lower Water Ranch" which is one of the best improved farms in this section of the country. Mr. Rose was quite a devotee to the growing of alfalfa and was well versed regarding its adaptation and cultivation in Eastern Colorado.

Mr. and Mrs. Rose raised a family of nine children and the father was the first to be called from the family circle. Four sons, Jasper N., Milt of Siebert, Colo., Marion M. of San Francisco, Calif., and F. Rollie of Mintrun (sic), Colo. The daughters are: Mrs. Clara Heimbach of Dinuba, Calif., Mrs. Lena Smith of Imperial, Calif., Mrs. Ella Bloss of Deer Trail, Colo., and Mesdames Edna Priest and Mettie Shanahan of Seibert. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two brothers are left, Henderson Rose of Dallas City, Ill., who is past 87 years old and has made the trip alone twice this summer. Once to visit the brothers and the last time to attend his brothers (is a word missing?) John Rose of Burlington, Colo., who is 85 years old. Besides these he leaves his wife who for over 53 years shared the sorrows as well as the joys side by side which comes into every life. Mrs. Rose was just seven years younger than her husband their birthdays being July 11.

Mr. Rose was a good citizen, an honorable upright man and was well known and esteemed throughout the county.

The body was brought in Wednesday night and services were held at the church Thursday afternoon, Rev. I. E. Hartman officiating. Many beautiful floral offerings covered the alter and casket. The Masonic order of which he was a member for over 50 years, performed their beautiful burial rites over the body of their brother. He together with Milt and Jasper belong to the Flagler lodge.

Interment was made in the Siebert cemetery. Many friends extends (sic) sympathy to the family.

Undertaker W. O. Campbell of the Hesserman Undertaking Co., came over from Hugo Thursday and conducted the funeral of George Rose. He also brought the hearse over from Hugo.

John A. White, G. W. Runtley, J. W. Alexander, E. T. Epperson, C. W. Clements, C. J. Anderson, H. H. Kliewer, W. A. Borland, A. L. Lockwood, and H. L. Widenheimyr were the brother Masons from Flagler who came down to attend the funeral of George Rose. The resident members who assisted in the service were: G. W. Klockenteger, A. M. Blumberg and W. S. Bruton.
