John Thomas Shultz

John Thomas Shultz was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, August 16, 1836 and passed quietly away June 21, 1907, aged 72 years, 19 months and 5 days after an illness of more than two years. He was united in marriage to Nancy A. Rush, June 7, 1860. To this uniion were born five children, all of whom survive him with his aged companion. The children are Francis J. now Mrs Ladd of Douglas township, Clare E. now Mrs. Trindle of Jefferson township, Emmet A. of Huron, South Dakota, Sarah E. now Mrs. H. C. Addy of Jefferson township and Artie R. who is still at home. There are nine grandchildren and many other kindred and friends.

More than thirty years ago he confessed faith in Christ as his Savior. Worn out and broken down and facing death he expressed hope in immortality and gave evidence that he died in the faith of the gospel. During the last seven weeks he was in an unconscious state. About 55 years ago he came to Iowa and has been a resident of Madison county nearly all the time since.

The funeral services were conducted from the Jefferson U. B. church by the writer, assisted by Rev. J. W. Stiverson and interment was in the cemetery near by.
