Obituary

Henry Hanson Andrews was born in Elkhart county, Indiana, May 8, 1836 and died June 26, 1909, aged 73 years, 1 month and 18 days. Only one sister and one brother survive him. He was married to Hannah H. Landis on Jan. 23, 1862 and their married life approached the fifty years. To them were born five children, all living, as are ten grandchildren, this being the first death in the family. He came to Iowa in 1868 and to Madison county in 1888, living on farms in Jackson, Union and Lincoln townships before moving to town in 1904. The wife and three children were by him at the close, Lewis of Clearfield; Arthur and Mrs. Maggie Taylor of this community. The two older daughters could not reach him. He united with the Methodist church in Indiana and was a member of West Star church at one time. He never lost his faith in God. His life was one of constant toil and the strong right arm that was so long the support of the family was the first member to yield to death.

Obituary

Henry Hanson Andrews was born in Elkhart county, Indiana, May 8, 1836, and died June 26, 1909, aged 73 years, 1 month and 18 days. Of a family of seven only two survive, Will W. Andrews, Tirsa, Ind., and Mrs. Sarah Miles, Denver, Colo. He was married on Jan. 23, 1862, to Hannah H. Landis, who survives him, as do their five children and ten grandchildren, this being the first time death has visited the family.

He came to Cedar county, Iowa, in 1868, and to Madison county in 1888, living on farms in Jackson, Union and Lincoln townships, before moving to town in 1904. Two older daughters could not attend him at the end. L. H. of Clearfield, Iowa, and Arthur J. and Mrs. Maggie Taylor, of this community, were present and ministered to him at the end.

He united with the M.E. Church in Indiana, and was a member of West Star church, this county. He never lost his faith in God. His life was one of constant toil throughout, and the good right arm that was the support of the family for so long, was the first member to fall when the fatal illness came.

Henry H. Andrews died Saturday morning, June 26, at his home in East Winterset. He suffered but briefly, a stroke of paralysis being followed by a rapid decline till death came. The funeral sermon was by Rev. Stiverson at North River U. B. church, with interment in McDonald cemetery. Rev. ReQua conducted brief services at the house at 12:30 Sunday. Singing by quartet from the Methodist choir.
