JESSIE SAWHILL, WINTERSET

Jessie Sawhill, 95, of Winterset died Jan. 19, 2008, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Jan.23) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Church of the Nazarene or Middle River Hospice.

Jessie Sawhill was born Jan. 27, 1912, to Frank and Mary (Kernen) Robey of rural Conway in Taylor County and was a 1929 graduate of Bedford High School. She later completed nurse’s training from Methodist Hospital School of Nurses in 1934. On June 12, 1934, she married Harold Sawhill. Jessie was a registered nurse prior to her marriage. Following her marriage to Harold, she assisted him in their farming operation. She was a member of the Winterset Presbyterian Church, Golden Rule Club, Missionary Society, Madison County Cattlemen’s Association, and Master Corn Growers Association and a former member of the Pitzer Presbyterian Church. She and Harold also were the founding members of the Winterset Squares square dancing club.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Harold Sawhill, Lloyd Bond and George Radakovich; and five siblings, Jennie, Edna, Clyde “Bud”, Louis, and Jake.

She is survived by one son, John Sawhill of Lorimor; one daughter, Eyleen McKinley of Winterset; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
