RUTH PICKETT

Ruth Pickett, daughter of Eli and Anna Jane Compton, was born July 10, 1864 and departed this life December 19, 1949 at the age of 85 years, five months and nine days. She was the eldest of seven children.

She was united in marriage to Jason C. Pickett May 25, 1887 and to this union two children were born.

She was born and lived in Dexter and Bear Creek community until married, then moved to Western Springs, Illinois. After the death of her husband, September 22, 1901, she moved to Dexter. In 1919 she and her son moved to Earlham.

Later this membership was transferred to the Earlham Methodist Church. She was a member of the Silver Circle Sunday school class, also the Women's Society of Christian service.

She was a devoted Christian, loyal to Christ and the church. Even when her health was poor, she tried to work for the Master, and did what she could to further the Kingdom and make the world a better and more beautiful place to live in. She was a member of the Friendly Circle.

She appreciated Nature and its beauties. She loved flowers and plants and was happy in sharing them with friends and loved ones.

She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Haymond and husband, Lee of Long Beach, California; and one son, Harrison E. and wife, Mary Pickett of Earlham; and two grandchildren, Mark Pickett of Seattle, Washington and Barbara Haymond of Long Beach, California; one brother, Elmer Compton of Stuart; and four sisters: Emma Crowl of Stuart; Olive Bennett of Adel; Sydna Day of Earlham; Hattie Stubbs of Mason City, Iowa.
