Formerly of Winterset

Richard McMillen, 75, of Sheridan, Missouri, formerly of Winterset, peacefully passed away Wednesday January 23, 2008 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday January 26, 2008 at the Church of the Nazarene in Winterset. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Madison County.

Richard was born on March 28, 1932 to Floyd and Tena (Saddler) McMillen. He was married on December 5, 1953 at Grant City, Missouri to Elizabeth Annette Cossins.

He lived in Winterset for many years until his retirement, moving to Missouri at that time. Richard was a heavy equipment operator for Gindler and Schildberg quarries for about 40 years. He helped build the Kansas Turnpike and helped build the dam at Toronto, Kansas.

Richard is survived by his wife, Annette McMillen of Sheridan, MO; children, Gary (Diann) McMillen of Johnston, Tena McMillen of DeSoto, Deanna McMillen of Des Moines and David (Shannon) McMillen of Lorimor; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry McMillen; and sister, Norma Jean Lovewell.

Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at Collins Oak Park Chapel with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Ronald McDonald House.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel and Funeral Services in Winterset.

Richard McMillen, 75, of Sheridan, Mo., and formerly of Winterset, peacefully passed away Jan. 23, 2008, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Church of the Nazarene in Winterset. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery, Madison County. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Ronald McDonald House. Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel & Funeral Services in Winterset.

Richard McMillen was born March 28, 1932, in Chillicothe, Mo., to Floyd and Tena (Saddler) McMillen. His marriage to Elizabeth Annette Cossins took place Dec. 5, 1953, in Grant City, Mo. Richard was a heavy equipment operator for Gindler and Schildberg quarries for nearly 40 years and helped build the Kansas Turnpike and the dam at Toronto, Kan. He was a resident of Winterset for many years, moving to Missouri upon retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry McMillen; and a sister, Norma Jean Lovewell.

He is survived by his wife, Annette, of Sheridan, Mo.; two sons, Gary McMillen of Johnston and David McMillen of Lorimor; two daughters, Tena McMillen of DeSoto and Deanna McMillen of Des Moines; and nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.
