Sam Grandfield-Afton

Samuel Keith Grandfield, 16, of Afton died Jan. 16, 2008 at his home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the East Union School gymnasium in Afton. The Rev. Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. Burial will be in Moon Cemetery near Macksburg. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the East Union School concourse in Afton. Memorials are to be established in his name.

Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St. Afton is in charge of arrangements.

Sam Grandfield, son on Christy A. (Tschirgi) and Bryan K. Grandfield was born Oct. 16, 1991 in Des Moines. He was a sophomore at East Union High School. He lived in Winterset, moving to Yale in 1996 and to Afton in 2002.

Survivors include his parents, Bryan and Christy Grandfield of Afton; brother, Brody at home; grandparents, Keith and Karen Mitchell of Thayer, Don and Bonnie Tschirgi of Eldorado, Ohio and Glen and Lana Grandfield of Winterset; great-grandparents, Jim and Marilyn Stagg of Rippey, Doris Mitchell of Afton, and Ruby Moffitt of Winterset; aunts and uncles, Jeff Mitchell (friend Dina Hoff) of Thayer, Mindy and Dave Jones of Shannon City, Skip and Jen Mitchell of Thayer and Michelle Grandfield of Cedar Rapids; and 10 cousins.
