Services for Mamie Belle Walker, 99, Creston, who died June 18 at the Westview Care Center in Indianola, where she had resided since March, were held Friday, June 21 at the Coen-Beaty Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger E. Russell of the Creston First United Methodist Church officiated with burial in the Moon Cemetery in Macksburg.
Mrs. Walker was born Sept. 25, 1885 in Adair County to Jeremiah M. and Laura Darby Wilson. On Jan. 11, 1920 she married Robert Lester in Winterset. He died Dec. 6, 1964.
Mrs. Walker was a longtime resident of Union township in Adair County, before moving to Creston in 1972. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hebron Methodist Church, the Ladies Aid Society, American Legion Auxiliary of Orient and the Women's Relief Corps of Macksburg. She also attended the Hill of Zion Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurola (Mrs. Dale) Gibson of Indianola and Mrs. Roberta Miller of Creston; three grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers.
