Obituary

Lucinda M. Doud was born in Oneida county, New York, July 13, 1811, and died October 12, 1892, aged 81 years, 2 months and 29 days. She was buried October 13th from the Fairview church, a large company of neighbors and friends being present.

In 1832 she came to Indiana and in 1849 to Iowa and has made her home in Madison county since 1863. She was married to Milton Wortman in 1839, her husband dying in 1847. The care of four small children was left to her.

In 1863 our sister was married to John Dill who departed this life six years ago. Grandma Dill was converted at the early age of 11 years and remained a steadfast Christian all her life through. At the age of 20 years she united with the Methodist church and was one of its firmest adherents till called to the church triumphant.

Her life was beautiful because heir with Christ, she gave clearer proof of what a blessed thing it is to seek the Lord early in life and devote a whole life time to His service. She was bereft of father and mother while but a child and knew how to trust Him who has promised to be a father to the orphan.

Five children are left who greatly feel the pangs of losing a mother.

At the funeral there was a solemn yet sweetly solemn peace resting upon the congregation, for all felt that the Lord had called for one of his sisters and it was not any of us to say Him nay. In her scrap book was found a poem marked as a favorite.

Note: Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.
