Obituary

Mrs. Lydia Gideon, wife of W. L. Gideon, Esq., and daughter of William and Sarah Gentry, who came to Iowa at an early day, was born on the 8th day of March, 1852, at Winterset, where she passed her childhood and early womanhood. She and Mr. Gideon united their fortunes on the 12th day of September, 1869. In the fall of 1877 they came to Nebraska, settling at Donhan, where the family still reside, and where after patient suffering for about six months from that dreaded disease, consumption, she sweetly fell asleep in death at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 20th.

She leaves a husband and eight children (part of this is unreadable) which she was a faithful member.

None knew her but to love her. The funeral service was held at the Congregational church in the afternoon of August 21st, before a vast concourse of mourning and sympathizing friends, the pastor, Rev. E. Crossman, preaching from Phil. 1, 21. The funeral procession was the largest we have seen for years and was fully a mile in length headed by the W.C.T.U., who attended in a body.
