Mable Savilla Comp, the younger daughter of Joseph and Savilla Comp, was born at Comp’s Corners in Douglas township, Madison county, Iowa, October 11, 1882 and departed this life in the Winterset hospital June 24, 1935, aged 52 years, 8 months and 13 days.
She received her education in district No. 7 Jackson township.
She united with the West Star M. E. church in girlhood and remained a member of that church until after her marriage when she united with the Pitzer United Presbyterian church of which she was a most faithful member until her death. She was always about the Lord’s work and willingly doing all she could do to further the work of the kingdom.
On December 21, 1904, she was united in marriage to Samuel G. Hoeness and to this union were born two sons, Lloyd C. and Harry E., both of whom reside in this community.
She possessed a most cheerful disposition and always wore a smile. She was always a friend to those in trouble and sorrow.
About January first she was stricken with the malady whose serious nature caused her death. Yet in spite of all her suffering, through all her illness she maintained a hopeful cheerful spirit even until her death. It was only a very short time before her departure that hers was a hopeless battle against the ravages of disease. As the shades of twilight hid to her mortal eyes the scenes of earth, they opened upon the beauty of heaven where she so longed to be in the abode of no pain nor sorrow but eternal bliss.
Those surviving her are the husband, the two sons, the daughters-in-law and two grandchildren, Virginia Irene and Charles Dean. Her four brothers, William, Walter, Ira and Frank Comp. All of these reside in this community. Her parents and a sister Ora preceded her to the heavenly home.
Her unusually large circle of friends dearly loved her and were present at her burial to pay respects and extend sympathy to the bereaved.
The funeral was held at the Pitzer United Presbyterian church conducted by her former pastor, Rev. W. C. Porter of Waterloo. John Sawhill and Mrs. Porter sang. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
