Mrs. Josephine Bertholf Dies

Funeral services were held at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon, June 26th, at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home for Mrs. Josephine Bertholf who died Monday, June 24th at her home in Winterset.

Mrs. Bertholf had been in failing health for several years, and a stroke was the immediate cause of her death. She had been a resident of Madison county for almost 70 years, having moved here when she was five years of age.

The deceased, formerly Miss Sarah Josephine Williamson was born February 4th, 1860 in Davis county, Iowa, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Williamson. She was married February 4th, 1880 to Linza Bertholf, and they made their home for a number of years in Lincoln township.

Mrs. Bertholf is survived by six children: Wray and Cole of Los Angeles, California; Don of Harlingen, Texas; Davisson of Des Moines; and Edna and Mamie of Winterset, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. R. Weed, pastor of the West Star church and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Sarah Josephine Williamson, daughter of Mary and Joseph Williamson was born February 4, 1860 in Davis county, Iowa. She died June 23, 1935.

At the age of five with her parents she moved to Madison county and resided here the remainder of her life.

February 4, 1880, she was married to Linza M. Bertholf. To this union were born four sons and two daughter, Wray and Cole of Los Angeles, California, Don of Worlinger, Texas, Davisson of Des Moines, Mrs. Edna Cummins and Mrs. Jobson of Winterset.

In addition to these she is survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Wilda Hibbs, a brother, John Williamson, both of Earlham, Iowa.

She was a great dutiful home loving mother. She believed in living her life in doing unto others as she would have them do unto her.

In her recent illness she expressed herself as ready to go.

Those who knew her well, knew her to be a constant friend, always helpful in sickness and time of need.

She will be greatly missed by her friends and neighbors who appreciated her sterling qualities.
