WEARY OF LIFE.

Mrs. Thos. Early, Formerly of Madison Co., Commits Suicide.

The Deed is Done at Atlantic City, N. J.

A sad End of Life

The Associated Press on Tuesday last sent out the announcement that Mrs. Thos. Early, of Des Moines, formerly of Jackson township in this county, had committed suicide. Mr. Early, it is well known, has become interested in the stock commission business in Chicago. He and Mrs. Early went east a few days ago for a short trip. The following dispatch gives further particulars:

Atlantic City, N. J., Aug. 8. Mrs. Thomas Early, the wife of a prominent commission merchant engaged in business in Chicago, but residing at Des Moines, Iowa, committed suicide at a late hour Sunday in the rear yard of a Pennsylvania boarding house. The couple arrived here Saturday evening. Mrs. Early was a sufferer from nervous prostration and had been brought here by her husband with the hope of finding relief. About ten o’clock at night they had retired to her room, and after seeing his wife safely in bed, Mr. Early left the room for a few minutes. On returning he found the window open and his wife missing. The alarm was given, and after about half an hour’s search one of the guests found her hanging in an outhouse. A towel, which had been torn into strips, tied together and looped, formed the means of destruction. The body was immediately cut down, and, though two physicians worked on her for considerable time, their efforts proved unavailing. The body was given in charge of a local undertaker, and after the coroner’s inquest to-morrow will be taken to Chicago. Mrs. Early, who was 42 years of age, has been a sufferer from nervous prostration, and though at times her mind seemed to wander a little, she never before made any attempt on her life. The grief of the husband at the death of his wife was agonizing, and when told of her death he refused to be consoled.
