DON CHAPMAN, WINTERSET

Don Chapman, 82, died Jan. 5, 2008, at Winterset Care Center North.

Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 8, at DeSoto Cemetery with Pastor Peter Cade officiating. Military rites were performed by Adel American Legion Penoach Post 464.

Don Chapman was born June 4, 1925, to Don and Rose (Fouche) Chapman of Slater. He graduated from Slater High School and entered the United States Army, serving during World War II with the 41st Red Bull Battalion of the infantry. Don was involved with the invasion of Normandy, as well as numerous other battles within Italy and the European Theatre. He was married to Velma Hubbard. Don was a lifelong farmer; however, he also did some carpentry work. He was a member of the Adel American Legion Penoach Post 464.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Randy P. Chapman and Jeff Winchester; two sisters, Wilma Winters and Kathryn Stark; and two brothers, Wilford and Eugene Chapman.

He is survived by five sons, Jerry Chapman and Bill Chapman, both of Adel, Ed Chapman of Norwalk, Don Chapman Jr. of Lorimor and Will Chapman of Des Moines; three half brothers, Harlan Chapman and Ken Chapman, both of Adel, and Harold Chapman of Linden; and 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
